November 2009
Dear Community:
We recently mailed this year's third edition of the Community Connection. I hope you read it and will respond back with your suggestions. We are a community-based school, and we respond to the high expectations of
Carrollton , in particular, and our
Great Lakes Bay region, in general.
Recent events at the state level have decreased expected/promised revenues to Carrollton Public Schools by nearly $500,000. I am not only surprised, but I am embarrassed by these cuts. At a meeting two weeks ago, I heard our State Senator Roger Kahn speak in ways I thought were impossible by an elected official. He chastised a colleague by his suggesting that parents phone Roger's office to express concern over the budget crisis.
I not only hope you and others phone Roger Kahn, but toss into the list Ken Horn, Jim Stamas, Andy Courlouis, and our own Governor, Jennifer Granholm. Light up the phone lines, if you are so inclined, to point out that basic services of health, safety, and education, are not "extra" services that are afforded only when the economy is "good." These are services that should be non-negotiable "givens" in good times and in bad.
Look around you: We are a region of hope and growth. I would not choose to live in any other region. We should expect the best from all in service: Superintendents, Boards, Representatives, Senators, and Governors. That is why we are a democracy and a representative form of government.
Feel free to visit anytime.
Sincerely,
Craig Douglas, Superintendent
